A new tax break signed by the governor is aimed at easing prices at the pump.A cut in utility taxes would make much more sense, since it would give tax relief to every New Yorker. It doesn't make sense to drive needed jobs to the suburbs to pick on utilities. Keeping gas taxes higher keeps cars off our roads and people in public transportation, which is especially good for New York City.
Governor George Pataki says the so-called "gas tax cap" creates a maximum sales tax on gas and diesel fuels.
